Krasnohorivka has been the site of heavy bombardment throughout the war as it sits along the frontline between government and separatist forces. According to residents, shelling and small arms engagements persist, particularly in the evening hours, despite a ceasefire agreement. Many people live in extreme desperation, without heat and in homes that have been at least partially damaged by ongoing fighting. This causes devastating exposure to the elements during Ukraine's harsh winters. Today, I followed teams from the Danish Refugee Council as they distributed essential items kits to highly vulnerable individuals. Lots of elderly people, many living alone in damaged homes. Nearly all broke down in tears during the visits. It's a heartbreaking & dangerous situation. #war #conflict #crisis
